    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is your best camera?
It will depend on your needs. Each camera has been designed to best suit a group of applications. If you have questions about your application feel free to contact us and we can help guide you to the camera that will work best for you.

How far can you see with a tethered underwater video camera?
This will vary depending on water clarity the amount of light available.

Light: The cameras will all work on natural light from the surface to a depth of 100ft in cold saltwater.

Water Clarity: Generally the cameras will see about 5-7% farther than a diver with a scuba mask.

Artificial Light: All cameras come with auxiliary lighting. The Delta VIsion camera will see about 8-10ft in clear water on auxiliary lighting. The Deep Blue will see slightly farther.

Infrared or Not: You may have seen cameras advertising that they can see 20 feet in total darkness. What they fail to tell you that this is not underwater. I/R light is absorbed very quickly in water making it a very poor light to use. Our camera all utilize visible light. Our Delta Vision B/W camera is available with Blue (most effective) or Red (used by fisheries people) LED illumination. The Delta Vision color has ultra intense white LED's for illumination and the Deep Blue uses an external removable Xenon lighting system.

I have seen cameras for as little as $300, why does the SplashCam line cost more?
Although our systems are not the cheapest around, they do have the best value. Each unit is assembled in the U.S.A. to a very high standard of manufacturing. When you purchase one of the SplashCam cameras, you are getting high quality video and extreme durability.

    Is the camera digital?
We use digital signal processing in the camera. We use an analog signal to run up the umbilical cable to the surface. The analog signal will travel farther across copper cable without the need of special modems. You can digitize the signal at the surface with no signal loss by recording to a digital video recorder or digital camcorder with video input.

Can I watch/record the video on my laptop?
Yes you can. The video is easily imported to a laptop by using a USB video capture device.

How do you control the camera?
There are several deployment methods. If you are in a low current area, you can turn the camera in the water from the surface by twisting the umbilical cable with the cable clamp. If you want to move through the water you can attach the drift fin and the camera will always look the same directly you are moving. Of coarse you can connect the camera to a telescoping handle or down rigger as well.

Will any monitor work with the camera?
Yes, any monitor with RCA or BNC video input will work.
